SUMMARY
Trane is hiring an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support our Florida Commercial HVAC Region! This position is responsible for the promotion and maintenance of the Area environmental safety and health program as directed by the Regional Environmental Health and Safety Manager.  

This critical business partner is responsible for the promotion and maintenance of the area environmental safety and health program. We are looking for a great communicator who will be successful at building relationships both on site with our field technicians, and in our offices with our operations & leadership teams. The EHS Specialist can be located anywhere in the state of FL, with preference for candidates in central FL - Orlando, Melbourne or Tampa. 

Essential Responsibilities:
• Assist with leading and coordinating safety process efforts in the commercial sales / service office as directed by the Regional EHS Leader.
• Conduct inspections, risk assessments and jobsite visits with HVAC technicians at customer sites, both service and contracting.
• Ensure all safety, occupational health and environmental related records are accurately maintained and in compliance with state, DOT, provincial, or other regulatory agency rules and regulations and Trane procedures.
• Implement Trane safety policies and procedures to be followed by company personnel.  Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
• Analyze safety data to coordinate the safety effort for continual improvement.  Participate in department and Regional Lean processes.
• Assist in development and conduct annual safety training in assigned area offices, to include all regional employees 
• Conduct new-hire safety training in assigned areas.  Purchase required PPE, conduct in-person high-risk training and assign online training as determined by the business and regional training plan.
• Ensure that regional training, Qualified Person, PPE and inspection databases are updated and maintained.
• Participate on corporate teams as needed to assist in the development of safety policies and procedures.
• Coordinate and lead the Safety Committees in assigned areas and complete action items in a timely manner.
• Participate in investigation of injuries, near misses, incidents and accidents and ensures corrective actions are implemented and completed.
• Utilize company EHS platform, Gensuite, as directed to assign and monitor inspections, concern and near miss reports, Action Tracking System items and generate various reports as directed.
• Assist with overseeing the administration of workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier and administering the return to work program.
• Assist in evaluation of contractors as part of the regional contractor qualification program.

Requirements

Qualifications:
• Background in applying EHS principles within a service or construction industry (required).
• Knowledge of Non-Hazardous Waste Disposal considerations to meet DOT transport requirements along with EPA and state/local environmental requirements. 
• Knowledge of EPA Section 608 Refrigeration recovery and recordkeeping rules ideal.
• General knowledge of Federal OSHA, EPA, MSHA, DOT, as regionally appropriate.
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental or Safety Sciences/Engineering, or related field (required).
• A minimum 3+ years of practical environmental health and safety management experience at a medium-large site - Multiple sites preferred.
• One or more safety-related professional certifications is desired (i.e. CSP, CIH, CHSM).
• Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to:
+ DUI in previous 5 years
+ Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless / Careless Driving or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.
• Ability to motivate, engage and influence others.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including written and verbal in English. Bi-lingual is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction and strategy.
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
• Comfortable working with field technicians, presenting training material to large audiences, as well as communicating with leaders in the organization.
• Able to safely use a ladder with a 375 lb. total weight limit, while wearing equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Able to maneuver access areas, as small as 30” vertical x 45” horizontal.
• Comfortable accessing rooftops with extension and/or fixed ladders at heights of 15’ to 20’, and occasionally, up to 50 feet.
• This position is highly physical and requires regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, kneeling and climbing ladders.  It requires employees to regularly lift and or move up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.
